Tennis Round-Up: Injuries and Personal News Dominate Headlines
Swiatek Sidelined, Kartal Agonisingly Close
Iga Swiatek's season came to an abrupt halt after withdrawing from the Ningbo Open with a thigh injury, dealing a significant blow to her preparations for Indian Wells. The Polish star's decision to end what she has described as her most demanding campaign comes at a crucial stage of the season, forcing her to reassess her schedule.
Kartal's Heartbreak in Wuhan
Meanwhile, British number one Sonay Kartal came agonisingly close to securing the biggest victory of her career at the Wuhan Open final, only to see Chwalinska mount a remarkable fightback to deny her. Despite the disappointment, Kartal's run demonstrates the impressive form and resilience she has shown throughout her comeback.
Progress in Britain and Beyond
Elsewhere on the circuit, Katie Boulter delivered an emphatic performance at the Japan Open, while Klugman and Blinkova progressed at the Wrexham Open as the UK's largest indoor tennis event returned. Away from competition, Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina announced the end of her marriage to fellow professional Gael Monfils, citing the emotional toll of the ongoing war as a contributing factor.
