Svitolina opens up on separation as Kartal falls short in Wuhan final
Svitolina and Monfils end marriage
Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina has announced the end of her marriage to fellow professional Gael Monfils, revealing that the emotional strain of the ongoing war in her home country played a significant role in the separation. Svitolina described the profound impact the conflict has had on her personally and emotionally during this period.
Kartal's title bid falls just short
Britain's rising star Sonay Kartal came agonisingly close to claiming the biggest title of her career at the Wuhan Open, only to be denied in the final after a remarkable comeback from her opponent. Despite the loss, Kartal's remarkable run has cemented her status as the new British number one in women's tennis.
Other tournament action
Elsewhere on the professional circuit, Alexandra Eala snapped a three-match losing streak with a commanding victory over Parry at the Ningbo Open, while Davidovich Fokina claimed the Shanghai Masters for the most significant title triumph of his career. Britain's largest indoor tennis event is set to return to Wrexham.
