Kartal's breakthrough week ends in Shanghai heartbreak as Davidovich Fokina claims career crown
Kartal's Title Dream Falls Short
Sonay Kartal's remarkable week on the Asian swing came to an end in the Wuhan Open final, where she was unable to seal what would have been the biggest title of her career. The British player, who had secured a new domestic ranking milestone by reaching the showpiece after impressive victories including one against Ostapenko, was denied her maiden WTA 1000 triumph following a fightback from her opponent.
Davidovich Fokina Claims Shanghai Glory
In Shanghai, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina completed an impressive run to claim his career-best title at the Masters 1000 event. The Spanish player overcame top-seeded Alexander Zverev in the semifinals, with the German admitting fatigue as he fell short of his campaign's expectations despite overachieving in reaching the last four.
Asian Swing Continues
Elsewhere on the Asian circuit, Alexandra Eala looks to reset her fortunes at the Ningbo Open, while Jannik Jodar made Shanghai Masters history en route to a meeting with Daniil Medvedev. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic accepted a wild-card invitation for the Swiss Indoors.
